Greetings my fellow Archers I am Mistress Kaitlyn McKenna , Keeper of the Ansteorran Royal Rounds. Below is the rules to the Royal Rounds adapted form the Academy of the Bow.

Royal Rounds
A Royal Round is set of scores resulting from shooting 6 arrows at each of 3 targets, 20, 30, and 40 yards, and a 4th score resulting from shooting an unlimited number of arrows at a target at 20 yards in a timed period of 30 seconds. The resulting additive score is a Royal Rounds score. The Royal Rounds are composed of 5 divisions; open handbow; open crossbow; period handbow; period crossbow; and youth. It is not necessary to shoot in all of the divisions to receive Royal Rounds recognition.

Scoring
An unlimited number of royal rounds, per division, can be shot, per day. Only two scores (the highest) can be posted. The open division target is a standard FITA 60 cm. Each color corresponds to a score; white 1 pt, black 2 pts, blue 3 pts, red 4 pts, and gold 5 pts. Arrows breaking the color line are counted as the next higher score. Arrows bouncing off of the target face shall be counted as 3 pts unless the actual score can be verified. Archer and the Marshal shall jointly score the arrows in the target, with the Marshal making the final determination if there is a question about a scoring arrow.
Period royal rounds may use the Luttrell Psalter target and scoring as follows; Or 8 pts; Vert 4 pts; and Argent 2 pts. Or, if using the FITA 60 cm target, scoring is as follows; Small gold center ring   8 pts; Outer Gold band and Red band   4 pts; and Blue, Black, and White are 2 pts.

Submitting Scores
The Target Archery Marshal (or MIC) will enter the scores into the SCA Scores database. There must be a minimum of 3 sets of scores entered before the scores will appear in the SCA scores public ranking page. Score data is updated at 2 AM each day.
Once an Archer has submitted enough scores (3+), the Archer will be awarded a colored tassel as visible proof of accomplishment. Once an archer has earned a tassel, it is his/hers to wear until they earn another of higher rank.

Ranking
An archer s rank is determined by averaging the 3 highest Royal Round scores (as recorded on the SCA scores database) within the past 365 days. The color of the tassel that is awarded is based upon the ascending colors in a standard FITA 60 cm target.

Divisions
The Ansteorran Royal Rounds are composed of 5 divisions; open handbow; open crossbow; period handbow; period crossbow; and youth. Adult archers are able to compete in any or all of the first 4 divisions. Youth division is open to youths 13 or younger only. Each of these divisions is broken down into 6 ranks: Archer, Bowman, Yeoman, Forester, Huntsman, and BowMaster.

OPEN Handbow Division
The open handbow division allows both period and non-period bows, regardless if they are recurves, flatbows, or longbows to compete against each other. Arrows must be of wood shafting with feather fletching. Any type of nock maybe used. No compound handbows are allowed. No sights are allowed except markings on bow.

OPEN Crossbow Division
The open crossbow division allows both modern and period crossbows to compete against each other. No compound crossbows are allowed. Open front and rear sights are allowed. No optical sights are allowed. The prod may be made from any material and draw is unlimited. Any type of locking mechanism maybe used. The crossbow can be shot from any position except the  bench rest  position, and it must be shot from the hands. Slings may be used to carry the crossbow, but may not be used to assist in shooting it.

PERIOD Handbow Division
The period handbow allows only the bows and arrows which are made with period materials i.e. woods, glues or resins as long as they do not  plasticize  the bow or give an advantage over someone using purely period materials and construction. Period bows may not have an partial or full cutout sight window/shelf. Arrows may be made of wood only, and may be fletched in any combination of feathers. Nocks maybe self or made from period materials i.e. horn, antler or wood, but not plastic.

PERIOD Crossbow Division
The period crossbow allows only crossbows made of period material. To be counted a period crossbow you must meet ALL of the following conditions: 1. Stocks must be made of wood; 2. Stocks may not have a rifle style butt; 3. It may not have a modern style lock or trigger; 4. It may not have sights. The bolts must be made of wood with fletching made from parchment, feathers, or other period materials. Nocks are to be self or reinforced (no plastic). Shooting styles are the same as the open division.

YOUTH Division
Is the same as the Adult division, except targets are at 10, 15, and 20 yards, and Archer must be 13 or younger. Youths shooting in the Adult division cannot also shoot in Youth division. Marshals shall ensure that the youth scores are entered in the youth division only. Marshals shall document the age of the youth
