Description |
This Shoot was used to determine the Champion of Darkwater. This shoot consisted of three rounds. The first round tested an archer`s grouping ability, the second round tested the archer`s hunting skills, and the third, the archer`s battle readiness. In the first round, the archer shot six arrows into a hay bale at 20 yards, trying to get as tight of a grouping as possible. The groupings were measured with one of five strings cut to the length of the circumference of the colors on targets used for Royal Rounds. Points were awarded as follows: 1 point=larger than the white string; 2 points=shorter than the white string, but larger than the black string; 3 points=shorter than the black string, but larger than the blue string; 4 points=shorter than the blue string, but larger than the red string; 5 points=shorter than the red string, but larger than the gold string; 6 points=shorter than the gold string. The second round had the archers shoot at a cardboard deer at 15 yards. Each archer had one arrow to hit the deer. Points were awarded as follows: 0 points=miss; 1 point=body shot; 2 points=spine shot; 3 points=liver shot; 4 points=lung shot; and 5 points=heart shot. The final round was a timed round where the archers had 40 seconds to shoot as many arrows as possible at a castle wall with invading Reivers. The wall was a refrigerator box set at 20 yards. There were three Styrofoam heads above the wall. The wall had a door with a lock on it and a dozen sheep on it. The archer had to call the head they were shooting for, then shoot the door. After that, they could collect as many points as possible, but could only hit each Reiver once. Points were awarded as follows: 4 points for each Reiver; 3 points for the lock on the door; 2 points for the door; 1 point for the wall; 0 points for a miss; and -1 point for hitting a sheep. |
